Thesis update: Kick-off Meeting

I am more than happy today. The kick-off meeting with my thesis committee chair is very productive and effective. I am feeling safe and confident to conduct my current thesis research now. It is not too late and also not too abrupt to turn into an absolutely new topic. I like my current topic and feel it is very practical and useful for not only myself but also museums as well as museum professionals.

My thesis will be based on two case studies and several interviews as well as academic articles and archives. Today, my thesis committee chair approved the name list that I have selected for interviews and we kind of labelled them whom I should contact immediately, and who are the Must. I have realized one thing that selecting the right person for the thesis committee is the fundamental thing to get well started. She or he has the right vision of where the thesis is heading, and connections for interviews, surveys, as well as thesis-editing/reading.

Some other things I felt important and useful are to prepare a thesis meeting agenda and print out materials for discussion before thesis meeting. It is an awesome process of getting an experienced scholar’s suggestion and making amendments according to my own understandings and necessities.

Great start! And tons of thanks to my Thesis Committee Chair, Prof. Virginia Bower!
